General Provident Fund is compulsory
for government employees All the temporary
government servants after a continuous service of one year, all
permanent government servants, and all re-employed pensioners (other
than those eligible for Contributory Provident Fund) are mandatorily
required to subscribe to the GPF. A
government employee only needs to contribute a certain percentage of
their salary to become a member of the General Provident Fund. GPF Advance is a facility offered to the account holder/employee wherein he or she can obtain loan against GPF throughout his or her career. The loan can be repaid in regular instalments. No interest rate is applied to the borrowed sum.

outstanding money in the General Provident Fund, whichever is less. In

Interest income is totally exempt from Income Tax. Amount outstanding to the credit is fully exempted from Wealth Tax also. Interest rates on GPF are revised according to government's notifications issued from time to time. GPF is offering 8 per cent interest in the quarter ending December

Employee who hasn't started GPF account will be listed in the online application form. Employee can be selected based on Name or PEN.
- NominationsA subscriber shall, at the time of joining theFund, file a nomination inForm B set forth in the Schedule annexed to these rules, conferring on one or more persons the right to receive the amount that may stand to his credit in the Fund, in the event of his death before that amount has become payable, or having become payable, but not been paid. If the subscriber has a family at the time of filing the nomination, the nomination shall not be in favour of any person other than a member of his family.If a subscriber has no family, as defined in these rules, the nominee can be any person other than a member of his family .The nomination made by the subscriber who was not married at the time of filingnomination shall become invalid on getting married. If a subscriber nominates more than one person under Rule 5, he shall specify in the nomination the amount or share payable to each of the nominees in such manner as to coverthe whole of the amount that may stand to his credit in the Fund at any time.
- The subscriber has to select the GPF series name and enter GPF account number and his/her PIN number to obtain the annual statement. In case PIN number is not received by the subscriber, he/she needs to contact DDO (Drawing and Disbursing Officer)/Treasury/AG office.
